Oscar Stugg was adopted onto a small, remote farm along with the girl who became his sister. He would not leave that farm until eight years later, when he was escorted away by the Bear Creek police. Unprepared for ordinary life and haunted by the events that unfolded on Stugg Farm, a violent incident sees him locked away again until a local Reverend reaches out to him and helps him settle amid the wary people of the town he grew up in, but never saw.
Caitlin is a troubled teen who just lost her brother overseas. Unable to be reached by her parents and abused by a once consoling teacher, she has begun a slow but steady slide into self-destruction.
When an incident occurs and one by one the residents of Bear Creek begin disappearing inside their homes, neither Oscar nor Caitlin even notice at first. When one by one those same residents begin to come back out, though, they are forced together as an ancient biological weapon begins to destroy everything they ever knew. A very limited window to stop the weapon from spreading has already begun to close as the two, forced to rely on one another, struggle to remain alive, and human.
